Unique, bold clothing for women and independent kids, hand crafted resourcefully and truly sustainable.

O Moon was founded on many years of high end fashion experience, by Hannah Exley-Myers who imagines, designs, pattern cuts, sews, and sources the eclectic range of textiles from her home studio by the sea in Hastings, England.

Each O Moon garment is carefully, and resourcefully crafted by hand using a combination of (vintage, repurposed, deadstock) fabrics that makes each one unique.

Each kids piece has been designed with independent, active kids in mind; with an emphasis on practicality and comfort for everyday childhood. Elasticated waists for ease of dressing, turn ups lined in contrast fabrics to make a style statement out of oversized, pockets to be filled with new collections, tops are designed to be worn oversized with cuffs turned up. Roomy styles to accommodate cloth nappies, and designed with growing children in mind. All made from original pattern blocks drafted by myself.

Background

I trained in Fashion design at University of Brighton, graduating in 2002. During the course I discovered my love of pattern and print, as well as technical pattern cutting. After graduation I went on to train in Creative Pattern Cutting at Central St Martins college, London. After many happy years living and working in London, cutting patterns for many high end womenswear designers such as Vivienne Westwood, McQ, Emma Cook, Ann-Sofie Back, and Sinha Stanic, the arrival of our third child prompted a move out of London to Hastings, on the south coast.

Motherhood is something that has been, and is, hugely important to me, and truly educational in forming the ethos and concept of my line of clothing. With four children, I strive to give them space for their own personalities and unique characteristics to shine, a belief mirrored in my approach to each piece made for O Moon.

Having always been an avid maker and creative being, charity shopper, vintage clothing wearer, collector of fabrics, and advocate for Planet Earth, this business truly is a melting pot of all my passions. I began making quilts in my early twenties using off cuts and found fabrics. Now I am happy to be using them in the clothes I make.

Since my tweens and the gift of a book “A young persons guide to saving the planet”, I have been a passionate environmentalist. As a student, I put my beliefs into action by subscribing (and paying!) to a kerbside recycling collection (in the days before councils were required to recycle anything). I love nothing more than bringing new life to tired things by mending, upcyling and repurposing. This is especially important with clothing. Having spent years collecting fabrics, I started to design childrens clothing with them in mind. Creating clothes with bold contrast pockets and details means I can utilise smaller pieces of vintage, or damaged textiles.

O Moon was, in many ways, conceived at a crossroads of balancing a life-long creative drive and motherhood, while creating an independent ethical small business that aims to make bold, beautiful childrenswear that’s truly sustainable.

Children, clothing, and working towards a better planet has formed and informed who I am. This is my way of bringing all three together!
